Different Types of Flanges and Their Uses

Flange, also called flange flange flange disk, or flange. The flange is a part of the interconnection between shaft and shaft, used for the connection between the pipe ends; also used in the flange on the import and export of equipment, used for the connection between two devices, such as reducer flange. The flange connection or flange joint is a detachable connection consisting of a flange, gasket and bolt interconnected as a set of the combined sealing structures. The pipe flange refers to the flange used for piping in piping installations, and the flange used for equipment refers to the import and export flange of the equipment. There are holes on the flange, and the bolts make the two flanges tightly connected. The flange is sealed with a gasket. The flange is divided into threaded connection (fillet connection) flange, welding flange and clamp flange. Flanges are used in pairs, low-pressure pipelines can use a wire connection flange, four kilograms of pressure above the use of welding flange. A gasket is added between the two flanges and then fastened with bolts. The thickness of flanges differs for different pressures, and they use different bolts. Weld Neck Flanges

Named for their protruding necks, these bulky flanges share the environmental stress of the pipe to which they are affixed and can, therefore, be used in extreme temperature or pressure situations.

 

Slip-on Flanges

Slip-on flanges slip onto the pipe – aptly named indeed – and are then welded on both the inside and outside. They’re cheap, popular and best used in low-pressure, low-temperature applications.

 

Threaded Flanges

Threaded pipe flanges are similar in design to slip-on but have a tapered thread, meaning they can be attached to pipes without welding. Like slip-on flanges, they’re best used in low-pressure, low-temperature environments.

 

Blind Flanges

Blind flanges don’t have a bore and are used to shut off sections of pipe. They’re suitable for high-pressure applications, as well as for testing the flow of gas or liquid through a pipe.

 

Socket Weld Flanges

Typically used on small, high-pressure pipes like hydraulic pipes, socket weld flanges are able to accept pipe into the socket to create the fitting.

 

Orifice Flanges

Orifice flanges are used in conjunction with orifice plates to measure or restrict the pressure or flow of gases and liquids in pipelines. They’re often sold together with the plate and jack screws as a complete product.
